A Birth at Baton Rouge Woman's Hospital

There is something sacred about documenting repeat clients, about being invited into life’s biggest moments again and again. It’s not just photography. It’s trust. It’s connection. It’s a relationship that grows alongside the families I serve.

This birth was extra meaningful to me because I didn’t just show up as a photographer, I had the chance to marry the two pieces of my heart that have been growing together this year. I’m a lifestyle photographer based here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I’m also currently training to become a Doula. On this day, I stepped into both roles for someone who has become more than a client, she’s a friend, and a mother I’ve had the honor of walking alongside from the beginning of her pregnancy journey.

There’s something incredibly grounding about holding space for someone in both silence and support, offering a steady hand during labor, then quietly stepping back to capture the moments that will become lifelong memories. It’s a delicate balance, but one that felt natural in that room. I watched her breathe through each wave with courage, and when it was time, she met her baby with calm and clarity. The moment she cut her own umbilical cord was one of quiet power, an act of strength, ownership, and love.

These are the stories that stay with me. Not just because of the photos, but because of the people. Because I got to witness transformation up close, not once, but throughout her entire journey. Being part of this birth reminded me that my work isn’t just about showing up with a camera, it’s about showing up with my whole heart.
